Setting up your own EquitySim challenge allows you to customize settings and isolate a leaderboard for a restricted set of learners. This is great for classrooms, clubs, and running your own competitions.

The easiest way to do this is by using one of our “Learning Challenges” templates.

What is an EquitySim Learning Challenge?

A Learning Challenge creates a leaderboard and a specific set of metrics that learners need to optimize to "win" the challenge.

Here's a video that showcases the platform in action (click the play button to watch):

How do I set up my own Challenge?

We've built an organizer dashboard for you to manage your challenge.

If you have not yet signed up for an organizer account, you can do so at: https://equitysim.com/registration/#educator

If you've come here from the registration page, follow the guide as you navigate your on-boarding:

STEP 1: Choose a Challenge
When you open your class creation screen, your first task will be to choose which template challenge to use:

Choose a challenge based on the level of your learners and the desired learning outcomes.

Market Basics

Objective: Place 100 trades while trying to make a profit

This challenge will increase your comfort with the financial markets. Your first goal is to place as many trades as possible (even if these trades have no strategy or reasoning behind them). By placing trades and connecting outcomes, you will increase your experience and familiarity with the markets.

Diversification Challenge

Objective: Build a diversified portfolio

This challenge explores the world of portfolio management and challenges you to build a diversified portfolio of investments. By the end of this challenge, candidates should have a general understanding of how to manage exposure to different asset-type, geopolitical, and industry risks.

Sharpe Ratio Challenge

Objective: Balance return and volatility to maximize Sharpe ratio

In this challenge, you will examine risk and return separately in order to understand the relationship between the two. You will need to learn how to balance both to maximize the Sharpe ratio. By the end of this challenge, candidates should have a qualitative and quantitative understanding of how to use the Sharpe Ratio to evaluate risk vs return tradeoff decisions.

Investment Challenge

Objective: Hold a diversified portfolio while maximizing return and Sharpe ratio.

Open to anyone from any field of study you will complete Challenge tasks while you learn how to manage a $1M investment portfolio. The money is fake, but the investments are real, you’ll need to keep up with current events while you choose which investment to trade.

Popularly used in college classrooms. See Syllabus integration below:

Custom Challenge

You create your own challenge, write the context and description, and set the rules.

STEP 2: Set course Identifier and Date

The Course ID will be how you reference this challenge in your tabs. If you have multiple sections, use the ID to differentiate them.

The Challenge Date is how long students will have access to EquitySim. This also determines how much the student pays.

If the duration is 2 months or less, it is $30. Every month on top of this is an additional $12.99.

STEP 3: Sending out your customized registration link

Once you’ve reviewed the criteria, click create and your challenge will be created. You will see a link pop up. This link is very important as its how learners will join YOUR challenge, and how you can track them all in one place for evaluation.

How does evaluation work?

Each challenge evaluates learners based on their own set of metrics. We track each metric, and also provide a "Combined score," that weights each metric, and provides a clear way to identify Challenge winners.

Details about the combined score: http://learn.equitysim.com/en/articles/4089168-what-is-the-combined-score

You'll be able to see the combined scores and rankings for each metric in your dashboard. Once you have a populated challenge, it will look something like this:

You can see one of the buttons highlighted here is "export data" in the top right. This allows you to export this student engagement/performance into excel at any time, to make grading easy.

Pricing?

For organizers, the platform is free to use.

The price for the learners depends on the challenge length you set.

There is a base fee of $30, that covers 2 months of usage. Every additional month adds $12.99 to the price of the product.

This covers unlimited trading for students during the period.
